How to get there

Title: Index theory in Mathematics and Physics

Abstract:

I will explain some of the motivation from quantum physics and mathematics for some recent work on index theory. Historically an impetus came from the study of the structure of the vacuum sector in quantum field theory. Currently there is great interest in developing a theory of invariants for von Neumann algebras that arise in statistical mechanics and quantum field theory. The talk will focus on the theory of spectral flow.

 

The talk is followed by a complimentary light supper. All are welcome.
