Bon Clarke studied at University College Swansea, a constituent college of the University of Wales, and completed his postgraduate studies at Imperial College London. He joined the Department of Theoretical Mechanics at the University of Nottingham, and came to Macquarie University in 1976. His fields of interest are primarily in the areas of time dependent partial differential equations, principally problems of controllability and observability, both important related topics in systems theory. Outside mathematics, Bon has a lifelong interest in music and occasionally attempts to entertain others on his chosen instrument. He has a serious interest in accurate music reproduction and producing solutions to the associated practical acoustic problems. Other interests include jogging and mountain-biking.
