Tanya Schmah is a well-travelled Canadian/Australian who joined Macquarie University in 2004 after a completing her PhD at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland and a stint as a Lecturer at the University of Warwick. She studies the consequences of symmetry in mechanical systems, in a field called geometric mechanics. More broadly, she is interested in all sorts of dynamical systems, geometry and topology, and modelling of real-world systems. She loves music and the outdoors and a good folk-dance.
