Biographical note: Peter was educated at University of Sydney, the Australian National University and Oxford University, graduating with a DPhil in Probability Theory in 1976. His first position was at the University of Melbourne, from where he moved to ANU in 1978. He has been with the ANU's Centre for Mathematics and its Applications since its inception in 1991, and was its Acting Head during 1996. In 1991 Peter was jointly appointed to the ANU and CSIRO's Division of Mathematics and Statistics. He has maintained an active consultancy with the Division ever since.
